About PIRT

Our mission

PIRT aligns Pacific conservation partners around shared priorities, community leadership and regional action for nature.

Pacific-led Framework-aligned Member coalition

PIRT exists to help Pacific Island countries, territories and communities turn shared conservation commitments into coordinated regional action.

A shared Pacific conservation mission

The Pacific Islands Roundtable for Nature Conservation brings member organisations, working groups and partners together around the Pacific Islands Framework for Nature Conservation and Protected Areas. Its role is to connect policy, science, Indigenous knowledge, community leadership and practical delivery so conservation work is less fragmented and more useful to Pacific priorities.

How PIRT works

  • Coordinate regional priorities. PIRT helps members align programmes, technical advice and advocacy with the Framework and national conservation priorities.
  • Support Pacific-led practice. The Roundtable recognises customary stewardship, local leadership and cultural knowledge as central to nature conservation.
  • Connect members and working groups. The network creates spaces for members to collaborate through thematic working groups, annual meetings and the Pacific Islands Conference on Nature Conservation and Protected Areas.
  • Share evidence and learning. PIRT makes guiding documents, reports, briefing notes and lessons from member projects easier to find and use.

What success looks like

Success means Pacific conservation partners can see who is doing what, find the right collaborators quickly, and move from regional commitments to practical action that protects biodiversity and supports Pacific peoples.
