Accelerating species recovery across the Pacific Islands
Mandate
A network of Pacific Island Species Specialists advocating for species conservation. Develops a regional and national strategy for species recovery — supporting Goal A and Target 4 of the GBF.
Core functions
- Convene 14 IUCN Specialist Groups represented across the Pacific (Marine Mammal, Sea Turtle, Seabird, Coral, Reef Fish, Freshwater Fish, Invertebrate, Bat, Reptile, Amphibian, Crocodile, Plant, Mollusc, Crustacean Specialist Groups).
- Run the Pacific Species Red List monitoring programme.
- Co-ordinate annual Pacific Species Status Reports.
- Support member countries' SDG 14/15 species reporting.
Joining the Pacific Species Working Group
Open to PIRT members + IUCN Specialist Group focal points + Pacific species researchers. Request membership via the SWG private group; confirmation within 5 working days.
