Project overview

IUCN-FNC coordinates this national initiative from its Guadeloupe antenna. The French Polynesia antenna relays its actions to managers and practitioners in the Pacific region through workshops, partnerships, best practices guides, education material and networking events. Examples of outputs during the reporting period include:
  • Publication of a guide on mangrove restoration in French and English and distribution in the Pacific region - 2022
  • Publication of guides on legal aspects related to wetlands in New Caledonia, French Polynesia and Wallis & Futuna - 2021
  • Regional hybrid workshop on mangrove conservation, management and restoration held from Touho, New Caledonia in partnership with Conservation International (nov. 2021)
  • Virtual visits of wetlands from Wallis (mangrove, lakes, taro plantations, islets) -2023
  • Coordination of the French Mangrove Monitoring Network (ROM) and trials of a new monitoring protocol with partners in New Caledonia - ongoing
  • Conception, distribution and animation of card games with indigenous & endemic species (Défis Nature) for New Caledonia, Wallis & Futuna and French Polynesia (2022-24)
