Pacific Islands Framework for Nature Conservation and Protected Areas 2021–2025
The Pacific Islands Framework for Nature Conservation and Protected Areas 2021–2025 is the Pacific's primary regional policy on biodiversity. It provides strategic guidance to governments, partner organisations, and other stakeholders working to safeguard the region's land, freshwater and marine ecosystems.
The Framework articulates a shared vision and a set of measurable objectives across themes including indigenous and community-led conservation, protected and conserved areas, species recovery, biosecurity, and climate adaptation. PIRT holds the mandated implementation and monitoring role for this document — convening member organisations, tracking regional progress against the Framework's objectives, and reporting back to Pacific governments and the broader conservation community.
